US visa application in Nigeria (How to Apply)

Getting a US visa application in Nigeria is not a problem as long you meet the necessary criteria needed for the visa.

A United States visa gives you the opportunity to travel into the country legally without anyone holding you down. However, depending on the type of visa you have, you might only be able to stay for a few days to years or even permanently.

There are different types of US visa and we will be listing them and their importance here:

Student Visa

The student visa is offered by the F-1 visa by the US. It is the most popular kind of visa. So, if anyone wants to go to the US for school or academic purposes, then such a person can apply to the US embassy in Nigeria for the application of a US visa.

Work Visa

Working in the US is also not a hard thing as long as the necessary visa requirement is met. To work in the Us and get the necessary visa, the law states that the employer must do the majority of the application by filing the necessary application which must be approved by the officials in charge.

This is the fate of most people coming to work temporarily in the USA, so it is important that if you want to work in the US, you must already have your employer ready to make your application for you.

Immediately the petition made by your boss has been approved, then you can apply for a work visa. A notification for your petition will be sent to your boss and a Form I-797 will be received and afterwards, you will be called for a Visa interview which will also stand as verification of your employer’s petition.

Business/ Tourist Visa

Business and Tourist visa is mostly called B visa being that a B-1 or B-2 visa is issued to you based on the category you fall in.

A B-1 visa is for persons traveling to the US temporarily for a short period of business trips. These can be meetings, conferences, conventions, retreats, etc. Thus, this type of visa is given for up to 6 months.

For B-2 visa, it is meant for those also traveling to the US temporarily for Recreational purposes such as tourism, sightseeing, visiting, and others in the category.

Oftentimes, this type of visa is issued as one, B-1/B-2 Visa.

Domestic Employee Visa 

The domestic visa is not very different from Temporary visit visa in regards to visa type as the set if its is mostly issued the B-1 visa also. These types of people are cooks, nannies, chauffeurs, gardeners, etc.

Where the nannies, chauffeurs, butlers, and cooks, are joining a diplomat, then they may be issued an A-3 or G-5 visa denoting the status of who they are following.

Journalist/ Media Visa

This is also one of the types of the nonimmigrant visas one can apply for as a media or journalist traveling temporarily for this job. This allows them to take up their job without a barrier to the country or place.

Criterial for US Student Visa 

  1. A Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) Form
  2. A valid International Passport
  3. A 5cmx5cm photograph
  4. Visa application fee
  5. An approved Form I-20 from your U.S. school or program.
  6. Documents demonstrating healthy financial status
  7. Documents that show scholastic preparation.

Criterial for US Work Visa 

  1. A Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) Form
  2. A valid international passport
  3. 5cmx5cm photograph
  4. Proof of visa application fee

Criterial for US Business/ Tourist Visa

  1. A Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) Form
  2. A passport valid for travel to the United States for 6 months at least.
  3. Necessary Payment
  4. A Visa Application fee
  5. A 5cmx5cm photograph

Criterial for US Domestic Employee Visa

  1. A Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) Form
  2. A valid international passport
  3. 5cmx5cm photograph
  4. Visa application fee ( for B-1 holders)
  5. Copy of employee’s visa

Criterial for US Journalist and Media Visa

  1. Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) Form.
  2. Valid international passport
  3. 5cmx5cm photograph
  4. Visa application fee (For B-1 applicants only)
  5. Copy of employees visa method
  6. An employment contract

After applying for the US visa category you fit into, you wait for the application to be accepted and be called in for your interview.

During the interview, the main goal is to confirm all that are in the forms you have filled and to make sure you are truthful in all you are doing. They majorly confine documents and be sure you have the financial capacity to sustain yourself or your family.
